Overview
This course is a nine month course (one day per month of classroom education). Each participant is partnered with a coach who will help mentor and educate between classes. Participants will, in tandem with their coach, identify a quality project to work on throughout the nine month period. This should be a project that can be completed or close to completion within the nine month period. Participants will be taught key IHI model strategies: Key Driver Diagrams, SMART AIM, Global AIM, PDSA cycles and PDSA ramps, data collection methodologies, sFMEA diagrams, statistical process control charts, run charts, Pareto charts, and other measurement techniques. They will present updates to the other class members throughout the nine month period and discuss opportunities to further evolve or improve their project. The participants are encouraged to engage others who may have an interest as team members for their specific project work within the hospital setting. This course will be applicable to physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify a quality project that would improve care or processes within your scope of responsibility and that could be complete or near completion within the 9 month course
  2. Execute the project plan using key IHI tools that will be taught during the course (Key Driver Diagram, sFMEA, Control Charts, Run Charts, PDSA cycles and PDSA ramps, Pareto Charts
  3. Differentiate between the various types of data and charts to utilize in a Quality project.
  4. Critique and learn from the project and the projects of others in the class.

Accreditation
Wright State University (WSU) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. WSU designated this CME activity for a maximum of 67.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
