The goal of this symposium is to update community providers and nurses with best practices and evidence based studies. The symposium is being held for community providers and nurses, as well as Dayton Children's providers and nurses.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the diferences between non-epileptic events and epileptic seizures Identify necessary testing for the diagnosis of PNEE Describe the common presentation of a non-epileptic seizure Recognise risk factors for PNEE Identify PNEE treatment, precautions, goals and prognosis Implement a PNEE action plan
  2. Describe current state of pediatric obesity and type 2 diabetes in the US Describe treatment past, current and future in pediatric obesity and type 2 diabetes
  3. Define professional boundaries Identified professional boundary crosings Review the Ohio Administrative Code 4723-4 Discuss scenarios Misunderstandings of social media ANA social media principles
  4. Update on management of acute and recurrent seizures Update on management of pediatric epilepsy Update on measuring and improving quality of life of children with epilepsy
  5. Review key findings from the landmark ACE study and subsequent resear linking childhood adversity to chronic diseases, mental health disorders and social outcomes. Discuss neurobiological and psychological mechanisms underlying the long-term effects of ACEs Explore best practices in trauma-informed care for healthcare, education, and social services Facilitate a collaborative discussion on strategies for prevention and early intervention to improve public health outcomes.
  6. Review the diagnosis of IgE mediated food allergy , including the appropriate use of skin and IgE testing Discuss the recent data regarding oral immunotherapy Review the data regarding Xolair and its use in food allergy Interactive case review incorporating treatment of food allergies
  7. Understand serveral definitions related to constipation Integrate unified approach to the care of patients with constipation Identified alarm signs and symtoms associated with constipation and encopresis warranting further evaluation Recognize non-pharmacologic adjunt treatment options for patients with functional constipation and encopresis Utilize standardized medical management for patients with functional constipation and encopresis
  8. Recognize and nderstand sensory processing differences Optimize healthcare environments for those with SPD Improve patient outcomes through inclusive care
  9. Identify the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder Identify the diagnostic process of ASD Identify evidence-based interventions for children with ASD
  10. Understand the pathophysiology of normal red blood cells and how changes to the hemoglobin proteins, cell enzymes and cell wall can all cause anemia View the hemoglobin and MCV on a CBC and create a differential diagnosis for causes of anemia Learn that a good history and physical can help differentiate inherited cytopenias from acquired cytopenias and help reveal the diagnosis Review the basics of many disorders associated with anemia, thrombocytopenia and neutropenia
  11. Review variations in presentation of pediatric asthma Review management in pediatric asthma Review updates in GINA 2024 guidelines and SMART therapy
  12. Recognize the difference between normal and abnormal breathing patterns during sleep Understand the different types of sleep apneas Understand different treatment options for SDB in children Review treatment approach differences among the different age groups
  13. Label the symptoms of anxiety, depression and PTSD Understand the importance of cultural background in the expression of mental health conditions Differentiate between disorderd behaviors and nonpathological response to stress Recognize accurate terminology when discussing mental health disorders Reflect upon your own professional scope of practice in response to mental health conditions Negotiate when to seek professional consultation
