Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand from a rehab perspective how the patient was treated through treatment through a variety of disciplines (physicians, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nurses, etc).
  2. Understand Burn and wound management from a medical and surgical perspective and the effect treatment has across the continuum of care.
  3. Demonstrate understanding of the latest practices in the acute and outpatient management of burn injuries.
  4. Analyze recent advances in burn management from a surgical and/or medical perspective that affect PT/OT therapeutic intervention.
  5. Describe the importance of functional positioning for patients immediately after burn injuries and throughout their acute hospitalization
  6. Describe the utilization of therapeutic exercise techniques for patients with acute burn injuries with and without surgical intervention
  7. Understand the role nutrition plays in improving outcomes for burn patients
  8. Describe the role of pharmacists in burn recovery and its effects with other medical disciplines (MD, PT, OT, RN, etc.)
  9. Enhance knowledge of the role of PT/OT in the management of burn injuries through the continuum of care – from initial admission through extended outpatient follow-up.
  10. Describe treatment intervention techniques and early therapist-assisted strengthening activities that enhance patient participation and engagement of muscle and soft tissue structures. Describe how early PT/OT intervention can limit the complications of atrophy and chronic disuse.
  11. Summarize therapy intervention options to inhibit post-burn swelling and scarring through the early use of compression wraps, garments, inserts and early active mobility.
  12. Discuss PT/OT treatment intervention options to inhibit the development of hypertrophic scarring and prevent long-term burn scar contractures.
  13. Summarize therapy intervention options to inhibit post-burn swelling and scarring through the early use of compression wraps, garments, inserts and early active mobility.
  14. Apply strategies of manual therapy techniques to optimize joint and soft tissue mobility of the hand and wrist during phases of severe post-burn hand swelling, when splinting alone is not enough.

Registration

Participants must register via CloudCME. This educational event is being offered for $50 to Premier Health employees and $150 to non-Premier Health employees for 8.5 pending CEU hours for PT/PTAs and OT/OTAs. Registration space is limited to 35 participants and reservations must be received by September 26, 2025. 


Accreditation

8.5 CEU hours are pending for physical therapists through the OPTA. 8.5 CEU hours are pending for Occupational Therapists through the OTPTAT board of Ohio.

Wright State University (WSU) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. WSU designated this CME activity for a maximum of 8.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Cancellations must be emailed in writing to Qasim Rizvi at [email protected]. Cancellations prior to 4 weeks will receive 100% refund. Cancellations prior to 2 weeks then 50% refund. No refunds within 2 weeks of course date.
