Overview

This course will cover the most common orthoses encountered while working as an occupational therapist. The goal for this course is to cultivate interest, competence, and culture of comfort with orthotic application as an occupational therapist.


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Summarize how to interpret the orders properly as well as take down and redo dressings that are appropriate for the fabrication of the orthoses.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of the varied materials and tools used in fabrication of UE orthotics.
  3. Understand common anatomical landmarks and how to account for them in the fabrication process and create void spaces for post-surgical pins, wounds, interactions with patients at bedside.
  4. Practice and understand how to complete: resting hand, forearm based thumb spica, wrist cock up, ulnar/radial gutter, and forearm based dorsal blocking splints.

Registration

Participants must register via CloudCME. This educational event is being offered for $75 to Premier Health employees for 7 CEU hours for OT/OTAs. Registration space is limited to 18 participants and reservations must be received by January 30, 2025. It is encouraged that interested attendees register by December 31, 2025 to help with supplies ordering. 


Accreditation

This course is for occupational therapists and occupational therapist assistants. Occupational Therapy CEUs are pending for 7 hours through the OTPTAT Board of Ohio.

Cancellations must be emailed in writing to Qasim Rizvi at [email protected]. Cancellations prior to 2 weeks will be given full refund. Refunds within 2 weeks are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
